Realigning Membership Between the Democratic and Republican Parties

I like to go onto Amazon.com to check how my book is doing there. While I’m on Amazon, I will usually go onto the Politics Forums to see what is being talked about. Tonight I found a discussion entitled “Bring Back the Draft in the U.S. Now!” Within the various commentary is the following post which discusses the frustration people seem to feel with the fact that they are dissatisfied with both the Democratic and Republican Parties.

Since this seems to be a case of “great minds thinking alike,” I decided to copy it and show it to you here. You’re also welcome to go onto Amazon and see all the posts for yourself.

Here’s the quoted posting.

“You know, I have friends who share my views on the "free trade" issue, but who say to me that they can only choose between the GOP and the Democrats, so they'll just stick with the GOP. I find that idea ridiculous. How was the GOP formed? Out of the remains of the Whigs and from other parties. If anyone thinks that another party can't rise, they're mistaken. Who controls the two major parties? The same transnational corporations responsible for pushing through so called "free trade" agreements that have destroyed our standard of living and economic success. If you ignore the ideologically opposed bases of the party (MoveOn.org and the like for the Dems, and the Christian Right for the GOP), the rank and file of both parties are very similar: socially moderate to conservative; fiscally conservative; hostile to free trade and illegal immigration, etc. The mixture is there for a massive political realignment between your 'Reagan Democrats' and your 'Main Street Republicans'. This new party would then compete with the Demopublicans or Republicrats or whatever you want to call them.

“As to National Service: it's a program that would provide participants with badly needed skills and training; a sense of purpose and direction; a greater understanding of America's socio-economic framework; much needed discipline; and an understanding of their obligations as citizens.

“It's an idea whose time has come!”
