A Post Script to Yesterday's Entry
11/6/07 A Post Script to yesterday’s commentary.
While sports fans in general may be loyal to a particular team, they do no allow that loyalty to blind them to the shortcomings of their team. Those fans demand the correction of those shortcomings in order to meet their ultimate goal.

In politics, loyalty to a party has become so extreme in some cases that partisan supporters have become blind to the shortcomings of that party.
In sports, the ultimate goal is winning the game within the rules for the game. In politics, winning should mean having better ideas and providing the most efficient and effective government possible. That means focusing on principles and outcomes in governing and constantly evaluating whether you are doing the following. Are you seeking the solution that does the greatest amount of good for the largest number of people for the longest period of time as balanced against doing the least damage possible to the fewest amount of people for the shortest period of time and is that solution the best for the dollars available given competing priorities?
Solutions like these can only be found in open discussion where there is trust among the people involved. Little trust exists when name calling and slander is encouraged. And sometimes the best way to start winning again is to put new players on the field.
