Senator Mitch McConnel Insults Fallen Troops
Recent remarks by Senator Mitch McConnel, R, KY demonstrate a viewpoint too often held by members of Congress and others. That viewpoint is that those who serve in our armed forces are somehow employees who get paid to fight and sometimes die. If they die, then they knew the risks, so what? This kind of cavalier attitude does not assist an elected official to display the proper understanding of their responsabilities by acting as a brake on getting us into war, fighting to win once we are at war, and requiring shared sacrifice in the undertaking.
We continue to shake our head at some of the rhetoric from both the extreme right and left.
We are not having a legitimate discussion of our options and we will not until we bring back a lottery draft that will expose all the children of America to the legitimate possibility of military service.
