From Tomgram: William Astore, In the Military We Trust
The other day when I posted the entry about Berkeley and its attempt to oust Marine recruiters in its midst, I also intended to post this article. Unfortunately, it got lost in the shuffle. My apologies.
One of the popular positions people commonly associate with so-called liberalism is an anti-military bias. Since I am not anti-military (having been military for over 20 years), I have a great deal of difficulty in being considered a "liberal".
At the same time, there are popular positions people commonly associate with so-called conservatism that cause people like myself to not want to be referred to as a "conservative".
So I think what I am looking for, like a lot of other people, is a political party that does not embrace anti-militarism and seeks common ground on some of the more contentious positions popular in conservatism today. I'll focus on the anti-military aspect given the content of William Astore's article. The article provides food for a very thoughtful dialogue on this topic.
Your comments, as always, are welcome. I'm going to add the website to our list of favorites.
