CNN: Obama Leads in National Poll

CNN's comprehensive polling report shows that Senator Obama is leading both Senator Clinton within his party and Senator McCain in a preview of the contest in the fall. Allow me a couple of thoughts before I show the link to the article.

First, I think it is good to remember that we are watching the contest for a starting job in pre-season. Each party is only watching their offense play against their defense. The fireworks will really begin when the two parties actually begin to engage in direct competition with one another.

Second, (if memory serves) at a similar point in time in 2004 Senator Kerry showed a considerable lead over President Bush. We all know how that turned out. We have a long way to go with a 24/7/365 news cycle to blow and spin us around with the winds of new information and issues. We are well served to remain grounded in the reality of what's to come.

Third, I promised you some insights into the success and appeal of Senator Obama. I also at one time promised some thoughts on what voters should demand of Democrats before agreeing to vote for them. I want you to know I have not forgotten those thoughts, just overcome by events. I should get to those over the next few days.
