The late Lewis Grizzard wrote a daily column for the Atlanta Constitution. We lost Lewis in April of 1994. He was scheduled for his fourth open heart surgery and died waiting for a heart transplant he never got. Lewis was a member of my fraternity and I was honored to meet him a couple of times. I miss his writing and wonder what he would have to say about things as they are.

I'm reminded of Lewis because he wrote once that writing a daily column was like being married to a nymphomaniac--the first week is fun.

Sometimes you can have the same feeling about writing a blog.

Lately the news and other commentary seems lagging a bit. Maybe its the seeming fatigue of the long primary season on the Democratic side or the lull between primaries. (That reminds me of another of Lewis' quotes. The Final Four having been played last night and the Men's Championship game being played tomorrow night means the NBA Finals are a "mere" almost three months away. Lewis wrote of the NBA that if whoever was in charge of their schedule had been in charge of WWII, the Japanese would still be in the running.)

I also sense talking to other people that a pent up desire to vote and be done with it exists. As was said on a talking head show a week or so ago, if we had a parliamentary form of government we would long ago have had a crisis of confidence vote in the Parliament and Bush and Cheney would have been gone. That's probably true.
