DemFromCT--Health Care Proposals: What's Going On?

DemFromCT has published on Daily Kos what to my skimming eye seems to be a fairly even handed summary of the three leading Presidential contenders' Health Care Proposals. The article has links into the detail for those of you who wish to delve deeper.

A thought for you on this issue. Most of us have seen announcements somewhere for a chili supper or some similar event to benefit someone who has developed some rare and usually deadly form of illness whose treatment is extraordinarily expensive. Have you ever thought about why we go to those events and pay $20 or more for $2 worth of Chili?

I think it's an acknowledgement that there but for the Grace of God go I. And if I were the one who had this disease, wouldn't I be grateful to those who helped me?

It seems to me that the promise of Universal Health Care is just a larger acknowledgement of that truth. By creating a fund we have a pool of money for the benefit of those who have won the negative lottery of catastrophic illness. It is not the takeover of the medical industry by the government.

I could be wrong, but that is the principle I would like to strive for.
