MSNBC.com: Evangelical Leaders Urge Step Back from Politics
Quoting from the article:
"A group of U.S. evangelical leaders called on Wednesday for a pullback from party politics so that followers would not become "useful idiots" exploited for partisan gain."
The article seems to indicate that several evangelical groups feel they have been used and abused by the political process and calls for "civil discourse in the public square."
There are indications to me from a variety of sources I have read is that a lot of the bull headedness I have seen in a Republican led government stemmed from a sense of invulnerability at the polls based on a level of confidence that evangelicals would always vote Republican no matter what.
