Frank Rich: McCain Can Run, But Bush Won't Hide

Frank Rich has some additional commentary over the special election results in Mississippi.

I have some additional commentary about liking or disliking an article. I try to post things that represents both sides with fresh insights, not just the news you already know. Sometimes I disagree with something someone says, but I let it be posted without noting my disagreement. Maybe I have a time constraint or I merely want to let other people be the judge.

My point is this. If you are moved sufficiently by something I posted to vote for saying you liked or disliked it, then please make a comment and give us the benefit of knowing what it was that moved you. I (and I'm sure other readers as well) would appreciate your thoughts.

One of the highlights of the article to me is the continued influence of Ron Paul voters. "For good measure, antiwar demonstrators from within the G.O.P. — Ron Paul devotees — could provide at least a smidgen of the 1968-style disruptions the Democrats may avoid. In April, the Nevada Republican state convention abruptly adjourned in midsession after the Paul forces won rule changes. The Los Angeles Times reported last week that other Paul cadres, operating below the national press’s radar, have also been fighting guerrilla battles “at county and state conventions from Washington and Missouri to Maine and Mississippi.”

I disliked this Frank Rich piece.

I go back to my speech 101 class. One of the few things I remember from that class is that there are speeches to inform and speeches to persuade.

I enjoy speeches, or articles, that inform or present a new point of view. Your recent Boortz blog fits in there.

On the other hand, I am tired of the political speeches or articles intended to persuade. I see this Frank Rich article in that category. To me, he sounds like a partisan cheerleader deficient in objective analysis.

One rhetorical device he uses is a side-swipe smear. He talks about John McCain and the GOP Convention, and he slips airport rest rooms into the discussion. There was a restroom incident and there is a McCain candicacy, but where is the connection? Kind of slimy journalism to me.

    Just my opinion.
