Forget John Edwards, Here's the Real Story
Forget the story about John Edwards. I'll probably have some commentary about that later. While you're (at least the media) is focused on that story, you're missing the story you should really be focused on.
Earlier this week I noted Ron Suskind's new book The Way of the World and its assertion that the Bush Administration had fabricated the link between Iraq and Al Qaeda to justify its case for the invasion of Iraq.
Naturally, the White House and the CIA denied the charges. Suskind has responded by releasing the transcripts of the on the record interviews the book is based on.
What these stories mean to you is that the evidence is now in place for an Impeachment case against at least the Vice President. What's more, if Impeachment is not pursued now, then war crimes charges might be brought sometime in the future.
Hear My Thunder has a posting on the story from Raw Story.

On John Edwards vs. Ron Suskind.
Michael Calderone at Politico talks about why they didn't report on the Edwards business. I like that kind of responsible reporting.

On the Suskind book, he makes some very serious charges. If they are true and accurate, jail time and impeachment are appropriate.
To impeach and/or convict, actual proof of wrong-doing is necessary. So, if there are tapes that show beyond a reasonable doubt that there was an order to fabricate the letter, and analysis of the letter proves the contention, put the guilty away.
On the other hand, if the "proof" consists of conjecture or opinions about possibilities of who could have done something, that "proof" is hollow. That would mark Suskind as someone trying to sell a book by repackaging old information.
I do believe that if there is something impeachable here, the Anti-Bush crowd will be all over it. Impeachment and/or criminal charges (or the lack thereof)in the next few months will give us the answer.
Just my opinion.

Last night, I actually had some time to sit and watch the Olympics on NBC. Good stuff. Michael Phelps is a freak of nature. I wondered if I was missing something, so I started to flip channels.
I selected MSNBC, and there was Olbermann talking about O'Reilly. Actually, I would say Olbermann was mocking O'Reilly. I don't think those two like each other.
Anyway, Olbermann was apparently quoting O'Reilly on things he (O'Reilly) had said about following the money in the Edwards situation. Apparently, O'Reilly contends that big money (millions) was spent, the Edwards campaign chief finance guy was involved, and violation of campaign finance laws could come into play.
After Olbermann read the apparent quotes in an attempt at an O'Reilly voice, he then talked about O'Reilly's sexual harassment business from five or seven years ago. He wondered if OReilly was projecting his feelings to the Edwards situation.
After a little of that, I switched back to watch 14 year old Chinese girls do impossible gymnastic things.
Some say this is unimportant, because John Edwards is not a candidate. I say that he was a candidate when most of this happened, the major players were part of his campaign, and there is a chance that big campaign money was used for non-campaign purposes.
Mostly, I am pissed that this S-O-B displayed such arrogance while doing so much damage to his family.
Just my opinion.

Jim,
You would be right about no love lost between Olbermann and O'Reilly.
My impression is that Europeans have decided marital infidelity is too common and too human a lapse to be a big deal in evaluating the performance of their leaders.
As a result, the occurrence is not a big deal in the media, although it might be at home.
Should we Americans adopt that attitude? Do you think we ever will?
