John S. D. Eisenhower: Presidential Children Don't Belong in Battle
The son of former President and General of the Army Dwight D. Eisenhower offers a perspective on military service by the family members of a sitting President I had not considered before. Eisenhower argues they should not serve in harm's way.
This is in contravention to thoughts I have offered. Should this also apply to members of Congress? In Israel, all members of its society serve in its military and all members of its Parliament are veterans, compared with @ 25% of the US Congress. I argue in my book that we need a system requiring all families to confront a reality their child might be selected for military service.
I'll be interested in your comments about Eisenhower's ideas and my own.
