Message from the Concord Coalition about Paygo for the Obama Administration
The Concord Coalition would like to draw your attention to our new issue brief: "PAYGO's Continued Relevance in Economic Recovery and Strategic Budgeting."
As President-elect Barack Obama begins to create a legislative agenda out of his campaign promises and Congress looks to implement that agenda and add items of their own, PAYGO budgeting rules will provide the first real test of commitment to fiscal discipline. While temporary, short-term stimulus can be justifiably exempted from PAYGO, it will be imperative that policymakers follow PAYGO for permanent policy changes in order to begin working toward a sustainable fiscal future.
