Canadian Leader Shuts Parliament
First of all, allow me to apologize again for my postings of late. I continue to have some technical issues and combined with some competing events I am behind on making some of the commentary I want to make. Please bear with me.
My posting of this article offers the other side of something I have been thinking about for some time. One of my criticisms of our government over the last 8 years (and especially the last 4) was the inability of the legistative branch to react and assert itself as a co-equal branch. I have pointed to the Parliamentary form of government as something we should look at for ideas on how to make the legislative branch more responsive to a Government Leader (Prime Minister, President) who is not performing as they should.
What this article may illustrate is what happens when the pendulum swings too far in the other direction. Remember that this new Canadian government was established less than two months ago and already there are calls for a crisis of confidence vote. Should that vote succeed, there would be another election in Canada in (I think) sixty days. What is going on here is the equivalent of the US having its inauguration and two months later seeing impeachment proceedings against the new President begin.
Here's the article. Tell me what you think.
