General Shinseki to Head Veterans Affairs
From the MSNBC Web site:
"WASHINGTON - President-elect Barack Obama has selected retired Gen. Eric K. Shinseki to be the next Veterans Affairs secretary, telling NBC News in an exclusive interview that "he and I share a reverence for those who serve."
"Obama will announce the selection of Shinseki, the first Army four-star general of Japanese-American ancestry, at a news conference Sunday in Chicago. He will be the first Asian-American to hold the post of Veterans Affairs secretary, adding to the growing diversity of Obama’s Cabinet. "

Shinseki has my eternal respect and gratitude for trying to let America know where it was headed in 2003. His is an outstanding selection, IMHO.
Contrast this with an article about GEN Barry McCaffrey. I pointed out this article to two people I served with who know McCaffrey. Both were upset by it. I also asked for the assessment of another senior officer I know. His assessment was McCaffrey relied too much on his reputation as a straight shooter. While the article doesn't really find any evidence of wrong doing, McCaffrey should have done more to avoid the impression of wrong doing.
Here's a link to the McCaffrey article.
