GM Facts and Fiction--Special Website

This is a web site GM put together to support its loan request and pointed out to us by one of Harry Douglas' guests this week.

While the Senate nixed giving the loan, there is still the possiblity the loan might be approved by the Bush Administration as part of the TARP assets.

What's missing (as I told the caller that day), is a refutation of the assertion that Unions are the cause of the Detroit Three's lack of profitability. Other auto makers, union or not, are struggling, too.

Another topic which may be addressed is health care. Many argue that American car makers have difficulty competing because of health care costs. This is especially true because car makers in other countries have universal health care. This topic is likely to be part of the dicussion when changes to health care are proposed by the Obama Administration. One more thought to consider in that regard. The leading cause of bankruptcy in America is suffering a serious illness. Those who survive the illness but are forced to take bankruptcy find buying a car extremely difficult. Perhaps Universal Health Care would reduce the number of bankruptcies and enable more people to be qualified to buy cars.
