Bradley to the Patriot Post: Get Over It
I had a friend send me a copy of the Patriot Post today. Allow me to tell you what I think of their posting by making a comparison.
Marty Schottenheimer has been a highly successful head coach in the National Football League. Before coaching, Marty was a player. He tells this story about how he developed one of his key philosophies. Marty was playing for Buffalo as a linebacker. A play went against Buffalo based on what Marty felt was an unfair ruling by the officials. During the next play, Marty continued to think about how unfair the ruling was. Marty thought about the unfairness for three more plays until, as I've heard him tell it, he was lying on his back in the end zone and the other team had scored. From that experience, Marty developed his philosophy of "one play at a time." You can't play the before over. You can't change the result. You can't skip the play that's about to be run and go to the one after. You have to focus on the play that's about to be run now. Nothing else matters but the play that's happening now.
Here is how that relates to what I'm seeing from the Patriot Post and other so-called Conservative Blogs.
The Patriot Post is convinced (and wants to convince you) Barack Obama is not worthy of being President of the United States. I've got news for you. We've already had the election and Barack Obama won. He is now the President Elect and he will be the President.
Instead of thinking about the play that's about to be run, you're still thinking about the play (election) that was just run and how Barack Obama should not (in your opinion) have won. And while you're focused on that sort of thinking, you're keeping yourself from thinking about how you can win the next election.
The fact is a lot of voters didn't vote for Obama, per se'. They voted against your candidates with their policies and their incompetence. If you want to win those voters back, then I suggest you turn loose of the focus on innuendo and focus on a serious examination of your policies. Who are they supposed to benefit and why don't the ones you have work?
Otherwise you're going to end up on your back in the end zone after the next election (again).

Larry,
I don't see a reference to the posting you saw. What did the post say that bothered you?

Jim,
It was very similar to the one I posted in my previous entry, The Crap Continues. I object to the overall theme more so than any individual phrase.
Programming is done through repetitive themes. Garbage In, Garbage Out, just like computers.
Remember these sayings?
As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. I forget offhand who said that.
A man will become what he thinks about most of the time. (I think I'm paraphrasing here, but this one belongs to Earl Nightengale.)
Our concious minds can hold only one thought at a time. So if you drink only from a source focused on innuendo and negativity rather than reality and solutions, then you will be focused on innuendo and negativity.
I'm not saying you should never look at a source like this. After all, (to quote from The Godfather) hold your friends close and your enemies closer. But be smart enough to recognize both when and how you're being manipulated.
