Vice President Cheney on Fox News

Today I listened to Vice President Cheney being interviewed on Fox News, something of a "farewell tour", if you will.

In a moment, I'll give you a link to the transcript so you can read what was said for yourself. First, a couple of comments.

Ever try dancing? Ever miss a step and then try to catch up? Hard, isn't it?

Did you ever work a complicated math problem or maybe a tax return and make a mistake on one of the numbers? That means every number you calculate after the mistake is wrong.

I mention this because Cheney continues to insist that the problem with Terrorists is a military issue, not a law enforcemnt issue. Tomorrow I'll have a posting for you giving you a new perspective.

Cheney also speaks to governing without regard to polls and doing what's right as an elected official, not simply what's popular. To a certain degree, I agree with that philosophy if you can back up that standard of governing with two safeguards. (1) Are you secure enough with your own self esteem to be able to consider the reason the policy is unpopular is because you made a mistake? (2) If people are unhappy with a policy, then could it be you haven't properly persuaded people of the rightness of your policy?

If you're governing without safeguards, then what you have left is arrogance and you're going to fail as a leader.

Here's the link to the transcript.
