I told you so

It's the same old crap isn't it?

It's like watching the same game, be it football, baseball or basketball. It's just that a new team has the ball/ is at bat and a different team is playing defense.

Meanwhile you're investments continue to tank and you wonder if you're going to have a job next week.  And, if your job goes away, how long can you make your savings last until you can find another one.

I've told you before and I'll tell you again--so long as you keep playing the game the same way with the same rules you're going to get the same old crap.

If you don't want the same old crap, then change the rules. Start talking to anyone who will listen about Instant Runoff Voting. Think about what it would be like right now if 20% of the Congress was a third party who believed first and foremost in financial sanity and couldn't give a crap less about "social issues".

We also need to start thinking about throwing out that amendment limiting a President to two terms. Probably the one about allowing direct election of US Senators, too.

Are you going to get bogged down in the minutiae or are you going to actually do something to change things? Your choice.

    Larry,

I get the disappointment. The disillusionment of shattered Hope and Change.

I am watching the shenanigans in Washington with a mixture of astonishment, amusement, horror and consternation. As it turns out, getting rid of W did not fix anything. All it has done is empower a different set of politicians with their own set of sometimes radical agendas.

For those who like what they read at Huffington Post, DailyKos, and MoveOn, and those who think MSNBC is the source of truth, there is another view.

The following article clearly has a point of view, a view that more and more Americans think makes sense.

This week, I had to have a tire fixed on my truck. I went to a local repair shop owned by a husband and wife. While I waited for the tire to be fixed, I talked with the wife/co-owner.

She said business is about normal for this time of year, but this is normally a slow time of year. Their business usually picks up in the spring, when people get their tax refunds.

Of course, we talked politics. She was well-informed and articulate. She also was very angry about the stimulus package. Her problem was not with the concept of a stimulus, but that so much other spending had been jammed into the package. She knew this would make it harder to keep their business going.

She said that "everyone" who came into her store was livid about the package. Mainly, these are people who go to work, pay their taxes, and generally take care of business.

The outrage is that they know they will eventually have to pay the bill for what the Washington politicians are doing in their own political self interest.

They know they are in trouble in their personal finances if they spend more than they make. They have to manage their own finances and sometimes have to make hard spending decisions. If only our federal government did the same.

Here is a more polished version of what these Americans are saying.

      Hello, Jim

Thanks for your post. Always enjoy your commentary and posts.

Tell me why the lady felt the stimulus would "make it harder to keep their business going".

I empathize with the feelings people have about seeing other businesses being bailed out. I have those feelings, to. But, given the conclusions I have reached about why we are in the circumstances we are, my disgust is aimed in a different direction.

Do the people you talk with realize they are reaping their own harvest with the way they have probably voted over the last few years? That they shot themselves in the foot electorally and admired their marksmanship? That the people who were in power over the last 8 years are responsible for the necessity of the stimulus--yet are even now unrepentent and unchanging in their beliefs? Yet the next time you vote you will have the same unappealing choices unless Instant Runoff Voting is approved and the possibility of a third party with a new philosophy is enabled?

I'm sorry to point this out, but all the predictable arguments made in the Heritage article I find inaccurate, misleading and slanted. I invite you to go back and re-read them and see if you can find what makes them inaccurate, misleading and slanted. Heritage has been around for a long time. They know how to push buttons psychologically and they do it  well. See if you can get them to explain precisely what they mean with the claims they make and the precise proposal in the final passed version that caused them to make that claim. Then let's revisit.
