Two Articles from DailyPolitics.com
My wife pointed out this first article by Emily Miller to me. I went to find it to post here and found Mary Curtis' article, too.
The commentary is as good as the articles themselves.
Here's a little standard I developed for myself in evaluating people. If I were in a life and death situation where what happened in the next five minutes depended on what me and one other person did, could I count on that person to hold up their end and do what was necessary to succeed? And if I were in that situation, would I care anything about the other person's nationality, gender, age, sexual orientation, religious belief, what kind of car they drove, what brand of clothes they wore, how much money they had in the bank or who their Daddy was?
I hoped the answer to the first question was yes and the answer to the second question I found to be no every time.
And if the answer to the second question was no when someone's life was on the line, then why would I care about those other things at any other time? The answer is I don't. Not that I don't have standards or not like nice things, but I have my priorities.
So if you give me a choice between who to have at my back in those critical moments between Rush Limbaugh and Colin Powell, then I'm going to take Powell in a heartbeat every time. If you're smart, you would, too. And you know it.
Here are the links to the articles.
First, Emily Miller.
