Tickets for College World Series Sold for Charity

The playoffs are underway to determine the final teams to come to Omaha for the College World Series June 13-23/24, 2009. I’m selling tickets through the Downtown Kiwanis Club of Omaha and part of the proceeds go to charity.

I’m selling books of 10 General Admission Tickets, a normal $100 value for $70. Each individual ticket could be applied toward a reserved seating ticket. If you’re not interested in going yourself, then please consider buying a book for donation to a local Omaha youth group.

Mail your check made out to the Downtown Kiwanis Club to 663 N. 132nd St, Ste 125, Omaha, NE 68154 with your return address information so I can mail you your tickets.

Thanks for supporting a charity and enjoy the games.

The Shelling Continues

If you want a peaceful Sunday morning, then don’t listen to the Sunday news talk shows. I normally get 6-8 of those mornings every year by virtue of my Sunday morning travel from Omaha to Kansas City to watch the Chiefs play. Unfortunately, watching the Chiefs play lately has put me in an even fouler mood than having watched the shows. What keeps me going back (besides the unique cultural experience) is faith that eventually a ruthless and unrelenting search for the proper combination of players, coaches and scheme will return a winner and good times to Arrowhead Stadium. If only the same thing could be said of politics.

This past Sunday I simply had one of those mornings as a matter of choice. Later in the day I went on line to see who had been on and what had been discussed. I see the war of words continues between Rush Limbaugh, Dick Cheney and Karl Rove on one side and Tom Ridge and Colin Powell on the other.

In my own book, one of the ways I paint a picture of polarized politics is to describe a town situated on the banks of a river with high bluffs on each side of the river. Polarized politics means you have two opposing armies occupy the bluffs and start shooting at one another with artillery (commonly referred to as shelling). Neither has the range to be able to destroy the other, so the rounds explode in the town. As a result, who gets hurt?--those living in the middle.

These battles normally take place between two political parties. This one is taking place within a political party. That’s interesting by itself, but more interesting still is the nature of the people leading the battle.

On the one side you have. . .
