Remembranc of the 40th Anniversary of Moon Landing
Given today is the 40th Anniversary of America being the first to land on the moon, I'm reminded of the following story someone told me. In telling this story, I've forgotten the actual name used besides Neil Armstrong's, but the name is not important to the story, so I will use Mr. & Mrs. Boyd.
Apparently, on the audio tapes of the moon landing (just before or after Neil Armstrong actually steps onto the moon's surface and says his famous "That's one small step for man. . ." line) historians have noted Armstrong saying, "Good luck, Mr. Boyd."
Decades went by after Armstrong's landing on the moon and Armstrong resisted all questions about why he said, "Good luck, Mr. Boyd."
Finally, however, someone was persistent enough to get him to tell the story behind the line. Here it is.
When Armstrong was in his early teens, he was playing baseball with his friends near his house. Armstrong was chasing a ball that had gone close to his neighbor's house. His neighbors were Mr. and Mrs. Boyd. Through an open window, he heard Mrs. Boyd say to Mr. Boyd, "Sex? You want sex? You'll get sex when the kid next door walks on the moon!"
Hence comes Armstrong's line, "Good luck, Mr. Boyd."
